Das letzte Segment meiner Reise führte mich von Singapur zurück nach Frankfurt – und das in der Premium Economy Class der Boeing 777-300ER von Singapore Airlines. Ich wollte unbedingt mal einen langen Tagflug in der Premium Economy zubringen und der Flug schien mir mit 13,5 Stunden Länge geeignet, das einmal auszuprobieren. Inzwischen verfügen alle für Langstrecken vorgesehene Flugzeuge der Airline über diese Reiseklasse.
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class Boeing 777-300ER Singapur nach Frankfurt | Kabine
Alle Kabinen der vier Reiseklassen sehen auf den neuen bzw. umgerüsteten 777-300ER schick aus. Von diesen Flugzeugen betreibt Singapore Airlines derzeit 27 Stück. Sie werden auf der Langstrecke als auch auf regionalen Routen in Asien eingesetzt. Die Premium Economy Kabine folgt von vorne kommend auf die Business Class und liegt vor der Economy Class. Nach der First Class mit nur vier Sitzen ist die Premium Economy Class die zweitexklusivste an Bord. Sie verfügt über nur 28 Sitze, während die Business Class 55 Sitze aufweist und die Economy Class 184 Sitze bietet.
Die Sitze der Premium Economy Class sind in einer 2-4-2 Anordnung konfiguriert, wobei die Mittel- und Außenreihen immer leicht versetzt sind. Der dominierende Farbton ist Grau, der um kräftige orangefarbene Akzente ergänzt wird.
Die Bulkhead-Sitze der Außenreihen sind am Notausgang, die Bulkhead-Sitze in der Mitte befinden hinter der Kabinentrennwand zur Business Class. Deswegen haben diese besondere „Features“.
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class Boeing 777-300ER Singapur nach Frankfurt | Sitz
Von den 28 Sitzen in der Premium Economy Class sind 20 20 Sitze in der Kabine – was Fußraum und Rücklehnungsvermögen angeht – identisch.
Sie bieten eine knapp 50cm breite Sitzfläche (und damit ca. 1cm mehr als in der Economy Class) und einen Sitzabstand von ca. 96 cm (im Vergleich zu ca. 82 cm in der Economy Class). Der 13,3 Zoll HD Monitor ist jeweils am Vordersitz befestigt. Weiter darunter befindet sich auch ein Netz für Zeitschriften o.ä. Gan unten am Vordersitz befindet sich eine (sinnfreie?) Fußstütze. Meiner Meinung nach unter Umständen für kleine Menschen zu gebrauchen, das kann ich nicht beurteilen. Wer sich jedoch auch in der Premium Economy die Knie unters Kinn klemmen möchte, kann die Fußstütze gerne verwenden. Leider gibt sich auch deutlich nach, so dass der ideale Einstellungspunkt nicht leicht zu finden sein wird.
Der „Tisch“ ist jeweils in den mittleren Armlehnen der Sitzpärchen angebracht. Dort muss das Polster hochgeklappt und dann der Tisch aus der Armlehne gezogen werden. Ich finde es schön, dass die Tische nicht am Vordersitz angebracht sind, dann bekommt man nicht unversehens einen Schlag in den Rücken wenn jemand in der hinteren Reihe den Tisch mit etwas zu viel Schwung hochklappt.
Die Rückenlehnen lassen sich um 20cm nach hinten klappen. Das ist nicht die Welt, kann aber helfen, den Rücken zu entspannen. Zum entspannten Schlafen ist es allerdings deutlich zu wenig. Die Monitore, die ja an der Rückseite der Rücklehne angebracht sind, lassen sich zum Glück ein wenig schwenken, so dass der Blickwinkel einigermaßen gewahrt bleibt. Selbst wenn die Rückenlehne vollständig zurückgelehnt ist.
In der Armlehne mit dem Tisch befindet sich auch ein Controller für das Entertainment System und den Rufknopf. Über der Halterung für den Controller sind die Steuerknöpfe für den Sitz angebracht. Diese haben ein Metallfinish und wirken dadurch wertig.
An der Kopfstütze haben die Sitze noch eine individuelle Leselampe. Diese hat den Vorteil, dass sie durch einen kurzen Schwanenhals nach den eigenen Vorlieben ausgerichtet werden kann. Außerdem strahlt das Licht dann nicht in die ganze Kabine ab, wie es bei den Leselampen, die an der Decke angebracht sind, der Fall ist.
Bei den Bulkhead Sitzen in der Mitte können an der Trennwand Babybassinets angebracht werden. Zusätzlich sind die Monitore fest an der Wand verbaut. Da die Wand unten keine Öffnung hat, ist der Fußraum durch sie begrenzt. Die Höhe der Monitore und die fehlende Möglichkeit, deren Blickwinkel zu verändern, finde ich nicht optimal.
Bei den Bulkhead Sitzen außen gibt es ein paar Besonderheiten mehr. So sind die Fuß-/Beinstützen ein wenig länger und lassen sich weiter ausfahren. Für große Menschen bringt das trotzdem nichts, da die Beinstützen viel zu kurz sind.
Mein Flug war sehr leer (8 von 28 Plätzen belegt). Dadurch konnte ich das Türmchen vor der Bulkheadreihe als Beinablage nutzen. In diesem Türmchen ist übrigens der Monitor verstaut. Dieser lässt sich jedoch nicht auf Augenhöhe bringen, so dass ich immer nach unten schauen musste. Und wie so oft musste der Monitor ca. 1h vor der Landung sicher verstaut werden. Zum Glück konnte ich auf einen anderen Sitzplatz ausweichen und den Film dort zu Ende sehen.

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class Boeing 777-300ER Singapur nach Frankfurt | Der beste Sitzplatz
Außer man reist zu dritt oder zu viert sind die besseren Sitzplätze außen. Aus meiner Sicht sind die Bulkheads insb. für Alleinreisende zu empfehlen. Das liegt daran, dass man dort jederzeit aufstehen kann, ohne den Sitznachbarn zu beeinträchtigen. Die Beinfreiheit ist zudem gigantisch. Singapore Airlines verlangt für diese Plätze jedoch einen streckenabhängigen Aufpreis. Zwischen Frankfurt und Singapur beträgt der 100 Euro. Allerdings kann man den Sitz beim Online-Checkin gratis auswählen, sofern er noch frei ist.

Hier der Tipp schlechthin: In der Premium Economy könnt Ihr „Book-the-Cook“ (BTC) nutzen, d.h. Ihr könnt vor Abflug Euer Essen auswählen. Wenn Ihr das nicht macht, bekommt Ihr das ganz normale Economy Essen. Das kann unter Umständen auch schmecken, aber irgendwie ist das BTC Essen viel besser.
Thema Champagner: Singapore Airlines wirbt ja damit, dass in der Premium Economy Class Champagner serviert wird. Das ist natürlich überragend, andere Airlines bieten das nicht. Während in der First Class noch 2-3 Champagner zur Auswahl stehen und in einer Flöte serviert werden, erhält der Business Class Reisende den Champagner in einer Art Saftglas. Natürlich gibt es für die Business Class einen anderen Champagner als in der First Class. In der Premium Economy und der Business Class ist der Champagner hingegen identisch. So weit, so gut. In der Premium Economy wird der Champagner allerdings in einem Miniatur-Plastikglas serviert, auf dem in hinreißender Detailverliebtheit der Boden sanft befeuchtet wird. Zugegeben, ein bisschen mehr ist schon drin, aber das Plastikgläschen ist sehr klein. Dennoch spricht viel für die Wertschätzung, die diese Geste aussprechen soll.

Neben der guten Essensqualität (die bei BTC nochmal besser war) möchte ich noch erwähnen, dass die Portionen sehr klein waren. Ein Gericht zum Start (Mittagszeit) und ein Gericht kurz vor Ankunft (Abend) klingt natürlich nicht schlecht, aber wenn zwischen den Mahlzeiten über 10 Stunden Pause ist, ist das gefühlt einfach etwas wenig. Zum Glück hatte ich mir etwas Essen mitgebracht, denn Obst, Chips und Schokoriegel sind alles andere als optimal. Sicherlich verbraucht man auf einem langen Flug nicht allzu viele Kalorien, dennoch wäre ein ordentlicher Snack nicht schlecht. Laut Karte sollte man auch Sandwiches bekommen können, jedoch wurden sie nicht angeboten. Wahrscheinlich ist das nicht immer so, da hatte ich anscheinend Pech.
Hier könnt Ihr nachsehen, was bei Book the Cook geboten wird. Es ist natürlich klar, dass es für die unterschiedlichen Reiseklassen (First, Business, Premium Economy) unterschiedliche Book the Cook Mahlzeiten gibt. Der Hummer Thermidor bleibt leider den Gästen ganz vorne vorbehalten.

Der Service in der Premium Economy unterschiedet sich während des Fluges im Wesentlichen nicht von dem in der Economy Class. Wenn man irgendetwas haben möchte, ist es einfacher, in die Galley zu gehen, als den Rufknopf zu drücken. Ob es das Gewünschte dann auch gibt hängt ein wenig von den FAs ab. Ich hatte Glück, dass alles ein wenig später an meinen Platz gebracht wurde.
Allerdings gibt es bei der Begrüßung spürbare Unterschiede: Zu dem heißen Tuch werden Champagner und Nüsse gereicht. Außerdem erhält jeder Fluggast eine Flasche Wasser an den Platz. Dabei wirkte die Crew entspannt und freundlich.
Irgendwie war ich mit den Flight Attendants auch schlecht synchronisiert. Immer wenn ich mir etwas zu trinken aus der Galley geholt habe, kam kurz darauf jemand mit einem Tablett Getränke (Wasser & Saft) durch die Kabine. Dadurch war es die meiste Zeit auch auffallend ruhig in der Kabine.
Das Essen wurde effizient und schnell vom Trolley serviert. Dabei wurden die Sonderessen und Book the Cook Essen vorab serviert. Noch ein Argument für Book the Cook, denn auch in der Premium Economy darf man bei Singapore Airlines vorab aus einer umfangreicheren Speisekarte auswählen.

Bei dem gebotenen Sitzabstand ist der 13,3 Zoll HD Monitor in Ordnung. Direkt darunter befindet sich eine USB-Buchse. Damit kann man elektrische Geräte laden oder eigene Inhalte auf den Bildschirm zaubern. Das ist schon ganz praktisch.
Die Bibliothek an Filmen, Serien und Musik ist umfangreich. Allerdings sind von den Serien oft nur einzelne Folgen vorhanden. Binge Watching ist also nicht möglich. Hier veröffentlicht Singapore Airlines regelmäßig das aktuelle Unterhaltungsprogramm.
WiFi gibt es leider nur zu einem Aufpreis. Leider ist der kleinste Tarif mit 30MB zeitbeschränkt.
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class Boeing 777-300ER Singapur nach Frankfurt | Kamera
Aus für mich unerfindlichen Gründen ist bei Singapore Airlines eine Kamera im Entertainment System integriert. Welchen Zweck sie erfüllt, ist mir unbekannt, allerdings schafft sie bei mir kein gutes Gefühl. Singapore Airlines sagt dazu, dass die Kameras Teil des Hardwarepakets des Herstellers seien. Außerdem seien sie deaktiviert und ließen sich an Bord auch nicht aktivieren. Darüber hinaus habe die Airline Stand Anfang 2019 auch keine Pläne, diese Kameras zu nutzen.
Diese Kamera ist in folgenden Flugzeugtypen installiert: den neuesten A380 (das heißt bald auf allen), allen A350 und allen 787-10. Dazu noch auf einigen 777-300ER.
Wer also auf der sicheren Seite sein möchte, kann einfach einen Klebepunkt mit ins Flugzeug nehmen und die Kamera abkleben, um allen Eventualitäten vorzubeugen.

Ganz vorne weg: ein solider Flug mit einem soliden Premium Economy Produkt. Da gab es wenig bis gar nichts zu meckern. Singapore Airlines bietet auch genug, um die Differenzierung zwischen Premium Economy und Economy Class zu unterstreichen. So gibt es mindestens 15cm mehr Sitzabstand, einen größeren HD-Bildschirm und ein Gläschen Champagner zur Begrüßung. Außerdem darf man vorab über Book the Cook Sondergerichte auswählen. Zudem ist die Freigepäckmenge erhöht und das Gepäck erhält einen Priority Tag.
Für einen Tagflug eignet sich die Premium Economy tatsächlich besser als für einen Nachtflug. Gerade wenn man im Flugzeug in Ruhe arbeiten möchte kann man das auf diesen Sitzen ordentlich erledigen. Allerdings wird jeder Flug, der 13h Stunden dauert irgendwann sehr lang – gerade wenn man nicht schlafen kann.
Ich würde das Produkt aber gerne wieder buchen.
